Whether being used for closed loop feedback, automation and assembly lines, stamping or other industrial applications, load cells provide accurate measurement of a load and convert tension or force into a proportional electrical signal. High quality load cells are designed to handle extremely high overloads without damage to the unit.
Once the load cell measures the load or force, a load cell amplifier is then used for signal conditioning so the signal can be amplified and converted into an output value. The output value is used by brakes, clutches and drives to determine an accurate speed and torque for operation. In turn, speed and torque control can easily be achieved throughout the production process. Without a load cell amplifier, the signal from the load cell may be too weak to read. The amplifier simply “amplifies” the signal so it can be read and used wherever and however needed. |
There are digital and analog load cell amplifiers. The type to be used will depend on the type of load cell. For example, you’ll use a digital load cell amplifier with a digital load cell. The amplifier must be calibrated to work with the load cell. An engineer can help you with the calibration, or the manufacturer may do this for you if you order both the load cell and amplifier from the same company.
Carotron’s Model LCA210-000 Load Cell Amplifier
Carotron offers a variety of motor control products, including tension load cells and a Din-Rail mountable Load Cell Amplifier (Model LCA210-000). This amplifier can be used in applications where signal conditioning is needed for a single channel. It maintains electrical isolation throughout the process between the input and output signals. It accepts input signals from potentiometers, strain gauge and LVDT load cells, and DC voltage.
