If you need to do a repair on a DC drive, make sure the parts being used are in compliance with the machinery you’re working on. Replacement parts should be in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations to prevent further mishaps or damage to the motor or drive. With today’s ever changing technology, verify that the DC drive repair replacement part is still compatible if there have been upgrades to the drive since your initial purchase. When purchasing a replacement part, ask or check to be sure there’s no deterioration due to a prolonged shelf life. Ask the manufacturer or distributor how long the item has been sitting on the shelf and if it has recently been inspected for deterioration. If not, ask if a new part can be created and how long this will take. If an on-staff maintenance technician plans to do the DC drive repair, the technician should follow proper start up and shut down procedures. This can help prevent hazards or physical harm when working on heavy duty motors and drives. |
Removing Broken Parts
Always exercise extreme caution during the removal of any broken parts or modules from a DC drive/system during maintenance. Failure to remove parts properly can result in even more damage and a more expensive DC drive repair. If returned to the manufacturer for a repair, you may incur more charges due to additional physical damage in this instance. Or worse case scenario…the part might be rendered irrepairable if there’s too much damage.
When shipping parts or modules back to the manufacturer for a DC drive repair, be sure the parts are safely secured in a box with the appropriate padding to prevent any further damage in the event the item is dropped or mishandled during the shipping process.
Contact the manufacturer to speak with an engineer or technician to discuss your DC drive repair or replacement. Get instructions on how to remove the part/module properly, how to do the actual repair, and how to properly ship the part back to the manufacturer. Following the manufacturer’s procedures can save you a bundle and keep your employees and equipment safe from harm!
